“My Way” was a set that I designed during my time as Production Manager/In House Designer for the Croswell Opera House, the sixth oldest theater in the nation. The theme was simple. As a musical review of Frank Sinatra favorites, I decided to go with a classical “Las Vegas show room” aesthetic. A grand turning staircase to showcase entrances and add levels, a heavy application of Mylar, multiple levels of soft goods, and back-lit spandex all combined to give an “over the top” grandeur to match the performers on stage. I originally designed the round platform that separated the grand piano from the rest of the band to slowly rotate, but as the production manager, the other half of my job title kept the designer half in check with budget realities. Aside from the difficulties my Technical Director had with applying the Mylar, this set was successful compliment to the costumes and performances that graced it.
