Putnam County Spelling Bee was a musical produced through the Santa Monica Drama Department in the Studio Theater.  The overall theme was meant to portray a more “folksy” mid-western theme that highlighted the cartoonish nature of the characters onstage.  This design implemented the use of a rear projection digital backdrop to serve as masking for the portal as well as to transport the characters onstage to a variety of different locales when the principals would create a different setting.  This was done to keep the scenes onstage instead of presenting off stage as space was a limiting factor.
