My apartment in San Francisco was lacking in storage space, so I decided to build a new closet under the stairwell that led up to the bedroom/loft.  The space was already used for storage, but now guests would not be treated to a view of all the items stored under the stairs, but rather a flush wall and a clean door in the “kitchen” area.
